Teaching the Children racial Tolerance

Parents should teach their children a little bit about tolerance of other cultures and perhaps expose them to other cultures, so that they won't be so close minded. Parents should teach their children about racism and be as real and honest as possible about the subject. And last but not least the parents should be examples to their children. Don’t go around telling your child that it is not nice to say insensitive things  to another race or think that way than a man named Juan pissed you off and you call him a lazy ass Puerto Rican not a good example.

Elementary schools can also add a racial tolerance in class and make it a requirement every year like math and English. It would benefit the children and make them better people as they get older, and they'll have better tolerance and knowledge of other cultures. Also more racial tolerance programs after school would be a nice bonus. For examples they can do a play were the children are doing role reversals from another culture to learn what it's like to feel the culture without being offensive. The last thing I think elementary schools can do is have culture week were they have the community leader s from different cultures and educate the children on their culture. During cultural week children could have dance offs, dress offs, ethnic foods etc. to celebrate the other cultures.
These are my suggestions to decrease children stereotyping other ethnic groups. Read my next blog stereotypes in the media and how it can affect our children I think you find it more comical but yet honest.
