Teaching the Children racial Tolerance

Parents should teach their children a little bit about tolerance of other cultures and perhaps expose them to other cultures, so that they won't be so close minded. Parents should teach their children about racism and be as real and honest as possible about the subject. And last but not least the parents should be examples to their children. Don’t go around telling your child that it is not nice to say insensitive things  to another race or think that way than a man named Juan pissed you off and you call him a lazy ass Puerto Rican not a good example.

Elementary schools can also add a racial tolerance in class and make it a requirement every year like math and English. It would benefit the children and make them better people as they get older, and they'll have better tolerance and knowledge of other cultures. Also more racial tolerance programs after school would be a nice bonus. For examples they can do a play were the children are doing role reversals from another culture to learn what it's like to feel the culture without being offensive. The last thing I think elementary schools can do is have culture week were they have the community leader s from different cultures and educate the children on their culture. During cultural week children could have dance offs, dress offs, ethnic foods etc. to celebrate the other cultures.
These are my suggestions to decrease children stereotyping other ethnic groups. Read my next blog stereotypes in the media and how it can affect our children I think you find it more comical but yet honest.

Positive cartoons that could encourage racial tolerance

On my last blog I have stated how cartoons  can have a negative influence on the children to believe in all the stereotypes towards other ethnic groups. But that doesn't mean that all cartoons shows are are narrow minded towards other ethnic groups. Some cartoons can be very positive to racial tolerance and teach the children color or being different in general doesn't matter because were all human and deserve the same rights.

Take the old school classic cartoon  Doug for example which came out  in 1991. On that show they did not have any specific ethnic groups or color at all. The show had all different types of people getting along with each other rather they were white, green, purple, orange, etc. There was no racial discrimination on the show at all which made it nice to know that anyone can get along. Another cartoon show with positive influence is Dora The Explora. She is Hispanic little girl that speaks Spanish and teaches children how to speak her language in simple ways, and is very educational with positive vibes. Even SpongeBob could be considered racial tolerance were you see a bunch of different fishes and sea creatures getting along with each other, like a a shark chilling with a fish. The point is there are  good and bad in racial tolerances in cartoons. If children focused more on the positive cartoons on racial tolerance and watch less of Family Guy they wont have such a negative impact on other cultures from watching cartoons.

Racism and stereotypes in cartoons and how it could negatively affect our children

What does racism and cartoons have to in common with each other? They both manipulate the children thoughts and perceptions of other minorities rather their sending a negative or positive messages. Cartoons forever have been a big influence on children all the way back into the 1920's when they were first introduce.Cartoons have a major influence on children's minds and imagination on a lot of  things in life including race.
Back in the day innocent childhood favorite cartoons such as Bugs Bunny  have portrayed some racist clips that they never really show on tv today. Back in the 1940's and 1950's when racism was more out there cartoon clips can get away with it more unlike today were they send more subliminal messages unless its an adult cartoon show like Family Guy.  Here are some clips of the good and the bad of stereotypes in cartoons from 1950's till today. They are funny ass hell but  children shouldn't be allowed to watch Family Guy because they don't get that everything is a joke when they throw in racial jabs at other ethnic groups. Children  have the tendency to take everything way too literal.I just posted five clips and links below enjoy and leave your thoughts and answers on any of them.

Racism and sterotyping still does exist in children part

Do children still stereotype other ethnic groups? Hell yeah they still do. It is just not as bad as it was in the 1950's because in today's society it is more normal to see children hanging out with children of other ethnic backgrounds. But children still do learn stereotypes about minorities in many other ways including peers, parents, media, family, and other authorities. For example when I was a kid I watched the movie White Man Can’t Jump and I  automatically assumed that all white man couldn’t jump just because of the movie.

Children stereotyping other ethnic groups comes natural through influences just as well as it does in adults. Everybody has some type of stereotype about other ethnic groups or cultures. But it is up to us to teach the children the dangers of stereotyping and why it is wrong to be judgmental. For more info and steps on this blog read into my next blog called teaching the children racial tolerance.
